Johns Hopkins University / Nanjing University

Johns Hopkins University and Nanjing University retained HLW and Perkins/ Eastman to develop a proposed expansion of the Center for Chinese and American Studies, located on the Nanjing University campus. The Center for Chinese and American Studies, a joint university program, is a unique leaning environment in which both American and Chinese students and faculty live, study, and learn together in a single structure and then to convert the existing classroom space in a new adjacent structure. Prior to beginning the feasibility study the Center had determined that established a new construction needed to double in size from 100 students to 200 students. The initial premise was to replace and build additional classroom space in a new adjacent structure and then to convert the existing classroom space for additional housing. The Center had established a new construction need of approximately 100, 000 gross square feet. An initial overall project budget had been established at $ 18, 000, 000 US. The design team was retained to analyze this premise.h.
